she used to call it
the "greek blues."
Her memory in a bottle,
now floating on - to the next plane.
I wave - accross borders -
a new life
is here.
I used to dance to my mother's music. Her Greek meets Jazz meets Funk music. I would dance in the living room as she dug into the world she left behind, and the world she made to be. Her music gave me a certain kind of life, unbound by time and times - good or bad. Unbound by the borders, she traversed to make a life here in New York City by way of Poland, Finland, and ancestrally Greece and Egypt before that. I dance - and I hope. This music a prayer to my mom - I imagine her dancing as she looks on, unbound.
unbound, for cello and piano was commissioned by Tommy Mesa.
